Enjoy a premium quality finish every time, guaranteed

Going above and beyond for our customers is what we would consider our bare minimum. We're proud to put our name on every project we complete, because we know it's the best quality work in the Manawatu.

About Us

One team. One standard: perfect.

Bolt Concreting is a Palmerston North concreting company, and we have been laying concrete across the Manawatū since 2014. We are a boutique team. The person who comes out to quote your job is the same person who sets the boxing, screeds the pour and runs the trowel over the finish — so nothing gets lost being handed between crews.

Most of our work is residential concreting for Palmerston North homeowners: new driveways for houses in Kelvin Grove and Whakarongo, replacement paths and patios around the older villas in Hokowhitu and Terrace End, repairs to failing driveways out towards Ashhurst and Bunnythorpe. We know the ground conditions here, we know what the Palmerston North City Council expects for a vehicle crossing, and we know how a Manawatū winter treats a slab that was poured in a hurry.

That local knowledge is the difference between concrete that still looks sharp in fifteen years and concrete that maps and cracks in three. We get the sub-base right, we use the correct mix and reinforcing for the load, we cut the control joints where they belong, and we cure it properly rather than rushing to the next job.

Crisp edges. Falls that drain. Sites swept clean at the end of every day. It is why most of our work now comes from referrals and from neighbours who watched us pour next door.

Why homeowners pick us

We turn up, we do the job properly, and we do not leave until it is right. Twelve years of laying concrete across the Manawatū means there is not much we have not poured. The same standard goes on a two-metre path as goes on a full driveway.

Services

Any concrete job around your home

If it is concrete and it is residential, we pour it. Every job starts the same way. We come to your property, measure up, talk through the finishes and give you a firm written price.

Concrete Driveways

A new concrete driveway is the single biggest change you can make to the front of a Palmerston North home. We pour plain broom finish, coloured concrete and exposed aggregate driveways, and we handle the whole job. Breaking out and carting away the old surface, excavating, laying and compacting the basecourse, setting the boxing, placing the reinforcing mesh, pouring, finishing and cutting the control joints.

  • Falls set so water runs to the street, never to your garage door
  • Correct mesh and slab thickness for vehicle loads
  • Vehicle crossing work co-ordinated with Palmerston North City Council
  • Plain, coloured, cut-and-seal or exposed aggregate finishes

Concrete Paths, Steps & Patios

Paths, steps and patios take more of a beating from Manawatū weather than people expect. Laid without proper falls they hold water, grow moss and turn into a slip hazard by mid-winter, and a badly formed step is a trip hazard from the day it goes in. We set everything to drain, finish it with enough texture to stay safe underfoot, and keep the edges straight, the curves fair and the rises even.

  • Broom or textured finishes for grip in wet weather
  • Proper falls away from the house and foundations
  • Consistent rises and crisp, hard-wearing step nosings
  • Patios sized and set out around existing decks, doors and garden beds

Concrete Slabs

Everything you build sits on the slab, so it is the one part you do not want done cheaply. We pour shed and garage floors, sleepout and extension foundations, and heavier slabs for workshops and farm buildings. Flat enough that the roller door seals, and reinforced for whatever ends up parked on it.

  • Levels set off the door so nothing pools and nothing rocks
  • Damp-proof membrane laid as standard on anything enclosed
  • Mesh chaired up into the slab where it actually does something
  • Bolt positions set from your shed plan before the pour

Concrete Resurfacing

Resurfacing is the fussiest concrete work there is and the easiest to get wrong. An overlay bonded to a dirty or moving slab lifts within a season, and a patchy finish looks worse than the concrete it covered. We prepare every surface properly before anything goes over it, keeping the bond sound and the finish even.

  • Surface ground and prepared so the overlay actually bonds
  • Cracks cut out and the cause fixed before resurfacing
  • Non-slip finishes for driveways, paths and wet areas
  • Colours and textures matched to the rest of the property

Concrete Repairs

Concrete rarely fails for no reason. Cracked paths, sunken slabs and crumbling edges usually come back to a base that has washed out, water going where it should not, or a pour that was too thin to start with. We find the cause first, fix it, then cut out the failed concrete and pour back so the repair holds instead of reopening next winter.

  • Cracked and lifted paths, patios and slabs
  • Broken edges, corners and step nosings rebuilt
  • Base and drainage faults fixed before we pour
  • New concrete matched to the existing finish as closely as it can be

Concrete Driveway Repairs

If the rest of your driveway is still sound, there is no sense replacing all of it. We saw-cut out the failed section, rebuild the base underneath and pour back to a control joint so the repair reads as part of the driveway rather than a patch. Where a driveway is past saving we will tell you that too, and price the replacement instead.

  • Failed sections saw-cut out and repoured to the joint
  • Sunken and rocking slabs lifted and re-bedded
  • Vehicle crossings and driveway edges repaired
  • An honest call on whether repair or replacement is the better spend

Exposed Aggregate Concrete

Exposed aggregate is the finish people notice, and the one that hides everyday wear best. The top layer is washed back to reveal the stone underneath, so instead of flat grey you get texture and colour that does not show tyre marks, leaf stain or the odd bit of oil. It suits the darker cladding going on new builds around Aokautere and Whakarongo, and it costs a fraction of paving over the same area.

  • A range of stone and colour blends, viewed on real samples before you commit
  • Naturally non-slip texture, good underfoot around pools and entryways
  • Hides tyre marks and staining far better than plain concrete
  • Sealed to lift the colour and make washing down easier

FAQs

Good questions

How much does a concrete driveway cost in Palmerston North?

Size, access, ground preparation and finish all move the price, so anyone quoting over the phone is guessing. We come out, measure, and give you a firm written price — free, no obligation, usually within 48 hours of your call.

How long does a concrete job take?

Most driveways take two to four days from dig-out to pour. Paths and steps are usually one to two days. You get the schedule up front and we stick to it.

Do you remove the old concrete?

Yes. Breaking out and carting away the old surface is part of the job, and it is included in the quote. You do not need to arrange a skip or a truck.

When can I walk and drive on new concrete?

You can walk on it after 24 to 48 hours and drive on it after seven days. We leave markers and tell you exactly when yours is ready.

Do I need council consent for a new driveway?

If you are forming a new vehicle crossing onto the road, Palmerston North City Council needs to approve it. We handle that process for you as part of the job.

What is the best concrete finish for a driveway?

Plain broom finish is the most economical and wears extremely well. Exposed aggregate looks the sharpest and hides marks best, which is why it suits new builds. Coloured and cut-and-sealed sit between the two. We will show you examples at the quote.

Will my new concrete crack?

All concrete moves. The job of a good concreter is to control where it happens — correct sub-base, the right reinforcing, saw-cut control joints in the right places and proper curing. Done right, cracking stays in the joints where you do not notice it.

Do you take on small jobs?

Yes. A short path to the clothesline or a couple of front steps gets the same care as a full driveway. No job is too small to quote.

Which areas do you cover?

All of Palmerston North and the wider Manawatū, including Ashhurst, Bunnythorpe, Feilding, Longburn and Linton.

Is the on-site quote really free?

Completely. We measure, talk through the options and leave you a written price. If it is not right for you, no hard feelings.
